It may come as a surprise that a company such as Mercadona, an international supermarket chain, is implementing highly advanced BIM processes to implement its international expansion strategy. What many people don’t know is that the chain is not only part of the retail sector, but also designs, maintains and promotes the execution of all its assets: from warehouses, shops and offices to “hives”, warehouses that are exclusively used for online sales. Mercadona is currently one of the most present Spanish companies in the AEC sector, with more than 1,600 shops, 16 logistics blocks, 3 hives and several office centres in Spain and Portugal.
In order to respond to strong market traction, Mercadona found with Onfly a way to use a content manager as a repository. Now the chain can manage the standardisation and parameterisation criteria of its objects, products and projects while being accessible to all its teams.
Victor Malvar, the IT project manager and promoter of the Mercadona digitisation project, explains why he trusted BIM&CO’s vision and technological proposal.
